With our wine group, we could easily convert this in to a Turley wine fan blog, but I'll resist the urge. However, last night we had a 2005 WhiteCoat from Turley and it was utterly amazing. It had a very honeyed nose full of flint and flowers, but then just exploded once it hit your palate into scads of flavors. Everything from pineapple to roses, mushrooms to butter.
Then there was the finish - it just went on for days with layer after layer. We paired it with a number of different foods. With a rare sweet king crab sushi it was absolutely amazing. It might have been one of the best pairings I've ever had with sushi. I think it was the lingering honey and floral finish that made it so elegant. It worked well with reasonable spice in a dish. With a squid and crabcakes it was a no brainer. The only thing it didn't seem to play with was acid. Clearly a problem of most wines, the wine's soft acidity and high alcohol just didn't work even with a sweet balsamic. I'd pop this wine and pair it with any lush protein.
